Dental Implant FAQs

With a procedure as extensive as dental implants, it’s reasonable to have a lot of questions. There’s a lot to be concerned about, from the length of treatment to potential pain. At NYC Center for Dental Implants, our expertise in implant dentistry allows us to answer all your questions accurately and thoroughly. Our experienced periodontists and dental team want you to feel comfortable with the whole process. We’ve compiled some of our patients’ most frequently asked questions about implant dentistry and answered them here for your convenience.

How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?

The total cost of a dental implant procedure depends on several variables. Your oral health, number of dental implants, and jawbone strength are all important factors when calculating the cost. The general cost of dental implants per tooth can be found on our home page. In short, a dental implant procedure to replace one tooth runs $1,495. Implant-supported dentures that need several dental implants range from $14,500 to $18,500. Although these costs appear high, when you compare them to the price of dentures and their lifetime maintenance costs, dental implants may be the more economical option.

Will Insurance Cover a Dental Implant Procedure?

Your degree of coverage for a dental implant procedure depends on your insurance provider. However, at NYC Center for Dental Implants, we’re dedicated to making implant dentistry affordable. We accept most insurance for full or partial payments. Our staff will be up-front with you about co-payments and deductibles before you schedule your procedure. Navigating insurance can be frustrating, but our team is trained and ready to help you with your insurance concerns.

Does the Dental Implant Procedure Hurt?

At NYC Center for Dental Implants, our periodontists and dental team take every precaution to make sure your procedure is as painless as possible. We offer three different types of anesthesia that will make you feel more relaxed about the procedure. Our dentists are trained to use general anesthesia to ensure you won’t feel any pain during a dental implant procedure.

How Long is Recovery and Follow-Up Care?

Most patients’ dental implants heal completely three months after the procedure. The good news is that you won’t require any follow-up care beyond regular checkups with your dentist every six months. While the initial dental implant procedure can seem daunting, the recovery process is generally easy.

Am I Too Old for Dental Implants?

Age doesn’t factor into whether you’re a candidate for dental implants. Implant dentistry is for everyone in good general oral health with a strong jawbone. If you’re still not sure if dental implants are right for you, contact the friendly dentists at NYC Center for Dental Implants.

How Long Does the Whole Process Take?

Typically, the dental implant process takes three to six months from the initial tooth extraction. This consists mostly of the waiting period after implanting the titanium roots and before placing the abutment and crown. Expect the whole process to take longer if your periodontist recommends jaw surgery or bone grafting to go along with the dental implant procedure.

Are Dental Implants as Strong as Natural Teeth?

You won’t be able to notice a difference between dental implants and natural teeth in terms of strength or appearance. In fact, implants are considered even stronger than natural teeth. No matter the hardness of any food, you’ll be able to chew with ease using dental implants. While traditional dentures move around when chewing and eating, dental implants will remain in place, giving you the same strength you enjoyed with natural teeth.

Should I Get Traditional Dentures Instead?

Unless you have gum or jawbone damage, we don’t recommend choosing dentures over dental implants. The experienced periodontists at NYC Center for Dental Implants can provide you with the closest equivalent to natural teeth through dental implants. They need almost no upkeep and won’t develop cavities. Dentures, on the other hand, are notorious for unwanted movement. They require constant cleaning and adhesive products that can hurt your bank account over time. For a strong, reliable solution to missing teeth, dental implants are almost always the best choice.

Can Dental Implants Fail?

While it is possible for dental implants to fail, this is very rare. Sometimes the implant doesn’t heal to the bone correctly, and in that case, you may need further dental implant procedures to rectify the problem. Most failures happen as a result of smoking, poor oral hygiene, or underlying conditions like diabetes. You and your periodontist at NYC Center for Dental Implants can further discuss your concerns about failure and the steps we take to prevent it.
