Dental Veneers in Manhattan

NYC Center for Dental Implants is the place to contact if you are looking to get cosmetic veneers for your teeth in the Manhattan Borough NYC area. Our dental team works with patients to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing smile possible through a variety of different techniques, and veneers are a very popular choice. A veneer is simply a layer that is placed over an existing tooth and bonded to it permanently to improve its appearance. Veneers can be used to cover imperfections such as marks on teeth or stains, or simply to provide a smile makeover. We utilize them for many of our patients and the results can truly be amazing.

What are veneers?

Simply put, dental veneers are custom made moldings that fit over and cover the front of your teeth. They can be made from different materials, and are tooth colored so that you have a natural, attractive smile.

Who is a good fit for veneers?

If you are over 18 and have chipped, crooked, cracked, or misshaped teeth, then you may be a good fit for veneers, which function as an attractive alternative to traditional crowns.

When should (or shouldn’t) you get veneers?

If you are not fully confident in your smile, you should always at least speak to your dentist to see if it’s a good solution. Almost anyone can be a potential candidate for dental veneers, as they’re perhaps the least invasive cosmetic restoration procedure and your tooth structure remains intact.

However, if you grind or clench your teeth on a regular basis, they may not be the best choice, since your veneers can break. While a bite guard can be used to minimize the stress, we recommend all-on-four dental implants in that situation. Finally, if you have an active gum disease, then veneers may not be the first choice.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers are made to last a long time—up to 15 years, if not longer. They shouldn’t stain or change color over time. Please speak to one of our dentists for more information on how long yours will last.

What is the application procedure?

First, your tooth will be reshaped to make room for the veneer’s added thickness. Excess enamel may be removed to do this, and if necessary a local anesthetic can be used. Once your tooth is prepared, our cosmetic dentists will make an impression, which your dental technician will use to make your veneer. We will make sure that it matches the color of your other teeth by using a shade guide so it looks completely natural.

During the next visit, we will show you the completed veneer to make sure it meets your satisfaction. We will then bond the veneer in place with a special adhesive of resin cement, so it remains fastened to your tooth. We will do a follow up check with you in approximately a week after the initial bonding to make sure everything is perfect and that you’re happy with your new dental veneers.

What are veneers made of?

Dental veneers are commonly made out of either porcelain or resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers are more stain resistant than resin veneers are, and they look more natural when it comes to reflecting light, just like your natural teeth do. However, it’s best to speak with your cosmetic dentist before to discuss your alternatives.

What types of veneers are there and when are they used?

  • Porcelain veneers are perhaps the most common, traditional veneers that have been used for over seven decades. They’re the strongest and more durable, but may require numbing shots for the application. They are also more difficult to repair.

  • Composite veneers are a less costly option that do not last as long, but can be much more easily repaired. They can also be applied in one visit and provide equally attractive smiles.

  • Palatal veneers are used for the interior surface of your teeth, to strengthen them from behind and prevent further wear and tear.

  • Zirconia veneers are best for patients who have teeth that have suffered more damage and decay. Stronger than traditional porcelain, they provide structural reinforcement to more compromised teeth.
